Hot summer by hot emerging artists
Curated list of 9 summer themed paintings by talented emerging artists
I can’t believe we are almost halfway through summer - my favourite time of the year. To celebrate the peak of summer today, I’ve curated a selection of summer-themed or inspired paintings from talented emerging and early-career artists. Those artists are not necessarily focused on creating summer-themed works, but the selected pieces reflect something special, perhaps a fleeting moment or a nostalgic feeling.
Paweł Świątek
* LA, pool, geometric architecture and palm tress. Paweł Świątek’s work looks like variations of Hockney’s Bigger Splash. I can see a piece hanging in a contemporary white villa in the Medditeranean or in your house just to remind us the beauty of hot weather and swimming pools to cool down.
Caleb Quintana
*Wonderfully atmospheric works that feel like reading a great novel. Hanhe Quintana actively reclaims his Mexican heritage through his work and shares the journey he and his family embarked on generations ago.
Jess Cochrane
*This painting evokes a contemporary version of pointillism, particularly when the subject matter is an Instagrammable fruit platter in the center of the table—a very relevant summer experience. Jess Cochrane’s work often addresses social issues, environmental concerns, and human emotion, encouraging viewers to reflect on their surroundings.
Tom Woolner
*I want to dip my toes in the sea when I see this artwork. There is something about the texture that makes this vision very inviting. Tom Woolner emphasizes simplicity, form, and colour, aiming to evoke a sense of calm and introspection. His careful balance of composition and subtle textures invites viewers to contemplate the essence of visual harmony.
Chris Akordalitis
*I feel like I'm taken back to my childhood when snorkeling and collecting seashells were the pinnacle of my summer. Chris Akordalitis's energetic and playful style is evident in his character work and concept art, often reflecting a love for pop culture and storytelling.
Megan Gabrille Harris
*Having a long and boozy lunch with friends by the sea - the pinnacle of my adult summer. Megan Gabrille Harris’s work explores themes of femininity, identity, and social commentary through layered textures and bold imagery. Her evocative compositions challenge viewers to consider diverse perspectives and narratives.
Josh Raz
*Perhaps a contemporary version of Monet’s play with light? The most beautiful moment of every summer day is sunset. Josh Raz captures natural light and authentic moments, resulting in compelling images that tell powerful stories. Raz’s work often emphasizes connection, emotion, and the beauty of everyday life.
Magdalena Karpinska
*The beauty of finding strawberries in someone’s garden. Magdalena Karpinska constructs multi dimensional painting compositions. She explores nature as a vehicle for emotions, symbols, religion and politics. She treats the work as a visual riddle, moving smoothly between the realism based on the observation of nature, and its deconstruction leading to abstraction.
Kat Lowish
*If this was a photo it would make a great instagram post - it’s artsy enough but also stylish enough to attract the fashion crowd. Kat Lowish is creating meticulously rendered paintings charged with intimacy, absence, and the quiet drama of ritual.
